The identity of business owners, fthe amily members and ithe ndividuals who share space in the business play an important
role in the success of any business.
"Sandy Decker is the owner of Paddy Wagon Antiques and is clearly the driving force of the business.
She has been an avid shopper and collector of things of old for more than fifty years. Prior to opening this business Sandy
managed other local antique stores. But in her off duty time, week-ends and evenings when ever possible she continued
the pursuit of her antiquing hobby successfully filling all her farm's barns, storage sheds and residence with sought after
treasures of joy.
Sandy's professional life has centered around being the strength and driving force of the Douglas County
Sheriff's Office. She joined me, her classmate, as his administrative assistant in 1982 when he was elected Sheriff.
I am honored in writing this informational piece about Sandy. I have known her ahd her husband for our
entire lives. I testify of her honesty, trust, intelligence, dedicated work ethic and so many more positive qualities.
I retired after two terms of Office as Sheriff but Sandy has remained and has continued to cause that
Office to be one of the most efficient and effective law enforcement agemcies any where in the good 'ole USA.
She is one of the very few female Sheriffs in the State of Illinois, serving in that capacity for six
months, upon the early retirement of Sheriff John Chambers and until the election was held to replace him.
Thus, the reasoning behind the business name of the PADDY WAGON, pretty fitting, isn't it?
Sandy continues to serve the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and therefore is present at the business
only on the week ends or evenings at response to special requests.
Warning: it would be wise not try to sell her stolen goods, if you know what I mean. But it is wise
to trust her in any dealings you may have with her. You will enjoy her most pleasant personality and sense of humor.
Sandy is the wife of Everett Decker, Jr., who answers to Junior. He farms and is owner of a trucking
service, as well. He has been struck by the same antique collecting "bug" as has Sandy. You will see him at flocal farm sales.
His trucking takes him to places where some of the more interesting antique shops across the nation can be found. I am not
sure that all the antique stops he makes is on the most direct trucking route. But, what the heck?
The Deckers have two grown children. Colby farms the family farm. Stephanie is married and the mother
of two children who works and also is hooked on antiques.
Other people in the business are local citizens who rent space in the large business facility. No two
business units are the same and each has a bit different view of things most collectable. So, opportunities for finding something
that you "just can not do without" become nearly insurmountable as you stroll through this value packed business building".
